| In a long-term field trial in Therwil, Switzerland, the bio-dynamic, bio-organic and conventional farming systems were compared (DOC trial). The present paper focuses on long-term yield development and on product quality of beetroot. Due to the favourable climate and soil, beetroot yields were generally high. The yield of beetroot in both biological systems was about 75 % that of the conventional system, but the input of nitrogen and potassium was about 60 % lower. |

| Project OF0112 contributes to MAFF's main policy focus of encouraging conversion to organic farming methods. It is part of a long term rotational study that began in 1990 as OF0102 and has recently been extended to 2001 as OF0145. The overall objective of these three projects is to evaluate the cost of conversion to organic arable production on a fertile soil, to assess the physical and financial performance of the organic rotation, to identify and overcome limitations to sustainabilty and to compare the results with conventional arable production. | Com o objetivo de avaliar os desempenhos dos consorcios cenoura-alface, alface- rabanete e beterraba-alface, e os respectivos balancos de nutrientes sob sistema organico de producao, foram conduzidos tres experimentos, em 1996 e 1997, no Municipio de Seropedica, Estado do Rio de Janeiro No primeiro experimento avaliaram-se os consorcios entre alface crespa 'Veronica' e cenoura 'Brasilia', e entre alface crespa 'Veronica' e rabanete 'Hibrido n° 19', comparando-os com os respectivos monocultivos, sob delineamento de blocos casualizados com quatro repeticoes. | Wenn die Schweiz darauf verzichtet, genmanipulierte Pflanzen in die Umwelt freizusetzen, so ist dies vor allem auch eine grossartige Marktchance für die Schweizer Landwirtschaft. Denn Gentech-food ist out, in ganz Europa. Die Schweiz könnte dann das liefern, was eine große Mehrheit gerne möchte: naturnahe und gentechfreie Lebensmittel. Die Frage ist bloß: Kann sich die Schweizer Landwirtschaft einen Verzicht auf Gentechnik leisten?
